Program:
Imagine transforming your passion for music into a great career. The Mercy College Music Industry and Technology program is conveniently located in White Plains in a 4,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art multi-recording studio complex within the Center for Digital Arts. The program is designed to prepare students for careers in the Music Industry with an emphasis on production, engineering, and [music] business. In addition, program participants may also focus on audio and music production for video, gaming and/or animation.
Our hands-on, project-oriented approach, as well as our small class sizes, ensure that students develop career oriented practical skills while at the same time acquiring the essential theoretical foundation critical to successfully adapting future technologies. Extensive offerings in music and ensembles are offered through collaboration with the Music Conservatory of Westchester , located within walking distance of the campus.

How can I get more information about the program?

Is this program only for musicians?
No, students do not need formal musical training, but all students should have some experience with an instrument, singing or music production. All musical styles are welcome. A demo tape is required for admission.
Can I begin taking major courses immediately?
Yes, students may begin major technology courses their first fall semester if they have placed into freshman level Math and English. Students may begin music theory, music history and an "intro to music technology" course at any time.
Are courses available in the evenings and on weekends?
Beginning in fall 2008, we will offer the program in the evening and on weekends.
How do I apply to the program?
Students should apply to Mercy College through the admissions department at www.mercy.edu. It is recommended that students contact the department's admissions counselor, Debbie Greig: dgreig@mercy.edu (914) 948-3666 ext. 3309 (administrative assistant ext. 3307) to discuss specific department requirements. Students must also submit an essay and demo tape.
What degrees do you offer?
A Bachelor's of Science (120 credits) and an Associate's of Science (76 credits).
Is there job placement?
Yes, the program employs a career counselor who assists students individually with internship placement and the pursuit of employment.
Are their extracurricular activities?
Yes, the program has a Recording Industry Club that organizes events, concerts, and guest speakers.
