The Division of Education at Mercy College, in recognition of the importance of a liberal arts education in producing effective teachers, requires all teacher education candidates to complete a major concentration in the liberal arts and sciences and an additional 51 credits in general liberal arts and science courses. Students are also required to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills and be able to incorporate media and other technologies to enhance the teaching/learning relationship. This preparation culminates in the integration of theory and practice through varied practical and field experiences in the pre-school, elementary, middle or high school classroom, as appropriate.
