  Health Professions

Mercy College boasts one of the most comprehensive and innovative Divisions of Health Professions in the nation. Twenty-first century practitioners must integrate an unprecedented amount of information--not only from their own disciplines, but from other cultures and practices around the globe. Keeping abreast of it all is nearly impossible so developing relationships with experts in related fields is essential. Your teachers at Mercy College will include clinicians engaged in current professional practice and seasoned teachers, researchers and professional leaders.

Our Occupational Therapy faculty has implemented the revolutionary problem-based learning model developed at McMaster University. Our Nursing faculty has focused its attention and resources on the educational needs of the returning RN-BS, RN-BS-MS, as well as graduate students in Nursing Administration and Nursing Education. Our Communication Disorders Department includes both baccalaureate and master's options and provides campus-based care to both children and adults with speech and hearing problems. Our Doctor of Physical Therapy program is offered in an intensive weekend format to meet the needs of qualified students who might not otherwise be able to attend graduate school. Our Physician Assistant program, offered at the graduate level, is a model program noted for its emphasis on research.

The Division also offers an associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA). Students and faculty in our associate degree program develop close working relationships to maximize success. The OTA program articulates with our new BS degree in Health Sciences, designed to prepare students to enter graduate programs in a variety of health professions. The BS in Health Sciences major includes coursework in the humanities, social and natural sciences and our anatomy and physiology courses are offered both with and without cadaver labs. The Division also offers a wide variety of Continuing Education courses for health professionals.
