Quill Awards

The Quill Awards, now celebrating its 19th anniversary, honors Mercy students who have excelled in their journalism and media activities and classes. Class and internship awards are given in addition to those awarded to outstanding members of The Reporter's Impact and the Drama Club. Competitive cash prizes are announced during the ceremony. Each year, the ceremony also honors an outstanding professional journalist and alumnus.

Sigma Tau Delta Induction Ceremony

Speechfest

This annual celebration of "Oral Communication" has provided Mercy College students a public forum in which to compete for trophies and cash awards since 1988. Initially titled, SOAPBOX 1988, the event quickly earned enthusiastic and loyal support from students and faculty alike for its celebration of the "Spoken Word!" With a new name, "SPEECHFEST" in 1990, students were invited to present seven-minute persuasive or informative speeches and to incorporate visuals into their presentations. Currently judged by faculty from the Division of Literature, Language, and Communication, along with top Mercy administrators, prizes are awarded to speakers for their outstanding achievements in both content and performance. The Top Prize winner receives $125, second place receives $75, and $50 goes to the third-place winner. All contestants are awarded trophies! The public is always invited to attend.
