    Program:

If you have a liberal arts associate degree (or equivalent credits), you can earn your bachelor's degree in one year through the Corporate Communications Program at Mercy College.

All of the 16 required courses in the major focus on the application and impact of communication in business. Students learn how to prepare professional presentations, design publications, develop website content, and create publicity and marketing materials while polishing their managerial communication styles. These skills can lead to positions in public relations, human resources, marketing, sales, and administration in for-profit and not-for-profit industries.

Geared to students who work full-time, Corporate Communication classes are held at the White Plains Campus with a portion of each course conducted online. Students work through the 16-course program together as a cohort which creates a supportive learning team.

Graduates of the Corporate Communications program say this was the best choice for them because they could finally finish their bachelor's degree in a field that did not limit them to one job title, appreciated having working professionals as instructors in the courses and learned in class concepts and skills they could apply on-the-job the following day.

    Frequently Asked Questions:

Are there any prerequisites for the Corporate Communications Program?
In order to join the next Corporate Communications cohort a prospective student would have to have taken English Composition, Introduction to Psychology, Oral Communication, Introduction to Computers (or pass a waiver test), and Junior Seminar. Even if you have these prerequisites, it's important to contact the Program Director as soon as possible to review all your transferable credits and to discuss with you what requirements you may still need to fulfill.

What do you mean by an accelerated program?
Corporate Communications allows students to take up to 60 credits between September and the following August, thereby completing two years of college in one year and "accelerating" their expected graduation date.

    I work full-time. How can I handle a full-time course load?
Even though a Corporate Communications student will typically register for 21 credits in the fall and spring, three in Intersession and 18 in the summer, the courses are conducted in eight-week intervals, so that students focus on four courses at a time, each meeting once a week. The instructors in the Corporate Communications program understand that their students work full-time, so they make the most of all class time together and are flexible when job-related obligations occasionally conflict with course schedules. Alums of the program tell us that as long as you stay in touch with the faculty and stay on top of all assignments, Corporate Communications students can successfully manage a full-time course load.

If I'm not exactly sure what my ultimate career goals are, is the Corporate Communications Program a good choice for me?
One of the advantages of the Corporate Communications Program is that it does not limit you to one particular job title. The skills and concepts you will learn in the Program can be used in any area of the business world. Also, there are several opportunities within the Corporate Communications Program to explore your individual career options. For example, you can choose any topic for your eight-page newsletter in the Publication Design class - that gives you a chance to conduct research and make contacts in a prospective field. The Capstone Project - your senior project - gives you another opportunity to investigate a career option. And a one to three credit internship is available to those students who want to use some vacation time from work to gain a valuable in-field experience.
