Program:
The Division of Mathematics and Computer Information Science offers a program in Mathematics leading to a Bachelor of Science degree. Our programs emphasize the applied aspect of mathematics and all students learn at least one computer language (currently Java). Our programs are designed to prepare students for the age of information by developing the skills and knowledge that are necessary for the workplace, graduate school and further education, and lifelong learning.
The Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics is particularly attractive to students who want to become teachers. Technology is well integrated into the curriculum. The Mathematics major develops the students' abilities to communicate effectively from a written and oral perspective as well as think critically and quantitatively. All of these aptitudes will clearly enhance the performances of our graduates in the competitive workplace and graduate schools of today.
One of the many strengths of the Mercy College Mathematics program is the small size of upper level courses, which are taught in group seminar settings, encouraging informal discussion and discourse between faculty and students. Professors are easily accessible for advice and help. We pride ourselves on the individual attention we are able to provide our students.
