How To Apply For Financial Aid

Mercy Connect & Financial Aid

The Student Financial Services Centers communicates with students through Mercy Connect only. Requests for additional documentation to complete processing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and notifications of awards are sent weekly. Students who have applied for admission to Mercy College may access their personal data as well as view and change other areas through Mercy Connect. Students should check their aid status at least monthly. Most of the additional documents that will be required can be downloaded and faxed or mailed to the Student Financial Services Center. Stafford Loan applications and promissory notes can also be completed and submitted online.

The link to Mercy Connect is located on the Mercy College home page. This site is accessible from home computers, school computer labs, and kiosks located around the Campuses. Students may also come into the Student Financial Service Center at any campus to review their aid. Using the on-line options will alleviate lines at the Student Financial Service Center and help us serve you more efficiently.

How To Apply For Financial Aid

To apply for financial aid at Mercy College, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) either via the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov or by paper. The Federal school code is 002772.

New York State residents will receive an Electronic TAP Application (ETA) directly from Higher Education Services based upon your filing the FASFA. Complete the ETA and return it to Higher Education Services to complete the TAP application process. The Mercy College TAP code is 2100 for undergraduates. For graduate students in semester-based programs it is 5105, and for trimester programs it is 5115. You can estimate your TAP award by using the TAP Estimator at www.hesc.com.

Once you have mailed your application to HESC, you will receive an award letter. In the meantime, you can check your application status at www.hesc.com.

After the completed FAFSA is mailed to the Dept. of Education, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR). Mercy College will also receive a copy of the SAR that we will use to determine your award eligibility. Shortly thereafter, your Award may be viewed through Mercy Connect.

Mercy College financial aid office offers the following financial aid:

These different types of financial aid are bundled together to form your financial aid award package.

Mercy College Scholarship

The Admissions Office awards Mercy College Scholarships. Applications must be completed by February 1. If you would like more information about scholarships, you should contact the Admissions Office at 1-800-MERCY-NY.

In addition to Scholarships offered by Mercy College, there are thousands of companies, foundations and groups that offer private scholarships based upon a variety of criteria. You can search for opportunities at www.fastweb.com. You should also complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at www.fafsa.ed.gov (FAFSA) to take full advantage of Federal and New York State Aid Programs.

Private Loans

There are several lenders that offer alternative loans in addition to or in place of the Stafford Loan. Requirements differ and rejection by one lender does not mean that you cannot apply to another for consideration. These loans should be considered only after your eligibility for the Stafford Subsidized and Unsubsidized has been determined.
