Music Industry and Technology Major
Admission Guidelines

Please carefully review the guidelines for application before submitting your support materials and essay. Students must apply directly to the Music Industry and Technology department and be approved by the Program Director before declaring Music Industry and Technology as a Major.

The Music Industry and Technology Program is a highly selective program which admits a limited amount of students each academic year to insure small class size and optimal student access to recording studios and labs.

Applicants to The Music Industry and Technology Program must complete both an application to Mercy College and a separate application to the Music Industry and Technology Program. It is recommended that students be accepted to Mercy College before applying to the Music Industry and Technology major. Test scores and unofficial transcripts must be submitted to the admissions office before an application to the Music Industry and Technology program will be considered.

It is recommended that prospective students submit their application to the Music Industry and Technology program along with support materials before June 1st.

Support materials that must be included with the application:

Essay
Please provide an essay, not to exceed 1000 words, describing your personal reasons for pursuing this area of study, including a detailed description of your musical interests, training and/or experience with audio or music technology.

Audio Demo (or audition)
Please provide a recording (CD, DAT or Cassette format) that demonstrates your instrumental, compositional or production skills.

Transcripts and test scores
Please provide a copy of your high school or college transcripts (unofficial transcripts are okay for MTEC application, but official transcripts must also be sent to Mercy Admissions). SAT or ACT test scores are not required, but are highly recommended.

Letter of recommendation
A letter of recommendation from a music or technology instructor is recommended.
