Honors Program at the Dobbs Ferry and Bronx Campuses

The Honors Program offers a lively, interactive way for students at the Dobbs Ferry and Bronx campuses to meet some of their general education requirements, as well as participate in additional course offerings, in an academically enriched environment. Honors classes allow our supportive faculty to better tailor instruction to individual students, encouraging them to achieve at a higher level and to develop such competencies as critical thinking, oral and written communication, and numeracy. There is usually more open discussion and greater professor-student interaction. The Program also encourages independent research to provide students with a unique and challenging educational experience. Outside co-curricular activities are scheduled to further enhance the curriculum and students are encouraged to take part in Honors Club activities. Students in the Honors Program benefit from excellent teaching and mentoring, interdisciplinary approaches to their courses, small class sizes and a sense of community.

Participation in the Honors Program enhances both students' college years and career pursuits, making post-graduation job and educational successes that much more likely.

Once accepted into the Program students must maintain an honors GPA of at least 3.2 and an overall GPA of at least 3.2 to maintain their participation. Students can be given one probationary semester if they fall under the required GPA - if they cannot improve accordingly they must discontinue participation in the Program

"I enjoy the interaction with my professors. I am more involved in classes and learn everything in greater depth. I have developed new friendships and joined the program because of the challenge it offered. While it requires self-discipline, I would recommend the program to anyone who is currently a Mercy student."
