Program Requirements:
Students are selected on the basis of motivation and previous academic achievement. Pre-requisites for the Program are placement at the English 111 and Math 115/116 levels.
Once accepted into the Program students must maintain an honors GPA of at least 3.2 and an overall GPA of at least 3.2 to maintain their participation. Students can be given one probationary semester if they fall under the required GPA - if they cannot improve accordingly they must discontinue participation in the Program
Incoming freshman
In order to graduate with Honors (as noted on the student transcript), freshmen students entering the College with 0-15 credits are required to take ENGL 191, ENGL 192, SPCM 190 and MATH 190 (non-bio majors only) and 4 additional honors courses, for a total of 24 honors credits. The honors courses currently offered are designed to fulfill some, but not all, general education requirements. The 4 additional courses can include Undergraduate Thesis, if both semesters (6 credits) are successfully completed.
Transfer student/continuing
In order to graduate with Honors (as noted on the student transcript), transfer/continuing students entering the Program with 16 or more credits must complete either ENGL191 or ENGL 192 and 5 additional honors courses for a total of 18 credits. The honors courses currently offered are designed to fulfill some, but not all, general education requirements. The 5 additional courses can include Undergraduate Thesis, if both semesters (6 credits) are successfully completed.

"I enjoy the interaction with my professors. I am more involved in classes and learn everything in greater depth. I have developed new friendships and joined the program because of the challenge it offered. While it requires self-discipline, I would recommend the program to anyone who is currently a Mercy student."
