ABI/INFORM Global (ProQuest) (title List)

ABI/INFORM Global indexes and abstracts articles in the area of business and management from 1,800 English language U.S. and international professional journals, academic journals, trade magazines, and general business magazines. It also includes the Wall Street Journal and Barron's.  Recent additions to the database include selected full-text doctoral dissertations and master's theses (primarily 1999-2002), the ABI/INFORM Archive (access to full-page images of older issues of many leading business journals), EIU ViewsWire country reports, and Going Global Career Guides.  Articles from over 900 periodicals are full-text. Coverage varies by publication, with indexing for many beginning in the 1970s and full text in the 1990s. (Full-text for the Wall Street Journal begins in 1984.)  Among its many subject strengths are corporate finance, marketing, organizational behavior, managerial economics, information systems, telecommunications, and health care administration. Links are provided within articles to Hoover's company profiles. Updating is daily.

ACM Digital Library   (Search Tips)          

The ACM Digital Library provides citations, abstracts, reviews, and the full-text for most articles published in periodicals and proceedings of the Association of Computing Machinery since its founding in 1947, as well as selected works published by affiliated organizations.  The newsletters and proceedings for all ACM Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are also available. Business Organizations is a searchable directory of new and established organizations and trade associations.  It includes addresses, telephone numbers, and contact persons and in many cases a brief description of an organization's products, services, and publications. Catalog of U.S. Government Publications

This catalog produced by the U.S. Government Printing Office provides indexing for print and electronic government publications created by Federal agencies.  When available, links are provided to the full-text of these publications. Availability of materials in government depository libraries (the Yorktown campus library is a depository library) is also indicated. Coverage begins in 1994 and updating is daily.

CINAHL (EBSCOhost) (search tips)

The Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature indexes and abstracts articles published in more than 2,700 English-language nursing and allied health journals as well as virtually all publications of the American Nurses' Association and the National League for Nursing.  Fields of allied heath covered include cardiopulmonary technology, emergency service, health education, medical/laboratory, medical assistant, medical records, occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant, radiologic technology, social service/health care, and surgical technology.  CINAHL also includes references to new books, book chapters, pamphlets, audiovisuals, dissertations, and other materials Coverage begins in 1982 and updating is monthly. PreCINAHL, a companion database, provides current awareness of new journal articles before they are entered into CINAHL.

ERIC  (search tips)  

The Education Resources Information Center, sponsored by the Institute of Education Sciences of the U.S. Department of Education, provides comprehensive coverage of journal articles and documents (conference papers, reports, booklets, curriculum guides, etc.) in the field of education from 1966 to present.  The Mercy libraries own many of the indexed journals and the entire collection of available level 1 and 2 ERIC documents on microfiche.  (Dobbs Ferry has ERIC documents from 1981 through July 2004 and the Bronx from 1966 through July 2004.)  Many documents issued 1988-present are available full-text online as part of the ERIC database, and a small number of full-text journal articles for recent years are now being added.  Updating is weekly.

Gale Literary Index

The Gale Literary Index is a master index to the authors and works covered in over 130 literature reference books and sets published by Gale, Charles Scribner's Sons, St. James Press, and Twayne Publishers. The Health and Wellness Resource Center, which includes an Alternative Health module, provides access to a broad range of current medical, health, and wellness information for all levels of health research.  In addition to more than 700 health/medical journals and hundreds of pamphlets (over 75% in full text), the HWRC includes health-related articles from 2,200 general interest publications, a broad range of reference books, consumer health videos, and links to key health web sites.  Magazine, journal, and newsletter coverage is 1980-present; newspapers 1998-present; pamphlets current year plus two years backfile; and reference books latest edition.  New periodical and newspaper articles are added daily.

Issues and Controversies provides background information, explanations of opposing points of view, and factual analysis of current events and issues in business, politics, government, education, and popular culture.  70 topics a year are covered, and the database includes topical reports back to 1996. JSTOR Language & Literature Collection  (search tips) (title list)

The JSTOR Language & Literature Collection is a full text searchable archive of 58 literary journals from their inception to all but the most recent years.  The journals span the literary cultures of many countries and contain articles in several languages. MEDLINE/PubMed (search tips) (Full Text from Off Campus)

MEDLINE/PubMed contains citations for articles from over 4,800 biomedical journals from over 70 countries from 1966 to present.  Approximately 80% of the citations contain in-depth abstracts written by the article's author and about 75% of the citations are published in English. Mental Measurements Yearbook (OVID)

MLA International Bibliography (search tips)

The Modern Language Association International Bibliography indexes critical literary, language, folklore, and linguistics scholarship in over 4,000 journals and serials published worldwide in a variety of languages as well as books, essay collections, papers, proceedings, dissertations, and bibliographies. Coverage begins in 1988; article abstracts are included beginning in 1994. Updating is monthly.

Social Sciences Abstracts (Wilson) (search tips)   

Social Sciences Full Text indexes and abstracts articles in a wide range of interdisciplinary fields covered in over 625 social sciences journals, with indexing and abstracting beginning in 1983, and full text of selected periodicals (approximately one-third of the indexed journals) beginning in 1995. Topics include anthropology, area studies, communications, community health and medical care, corrections, criminal justice and criminology, economics, environmental studies, ethics, family studies, gender studies, geography, gerontology, international relations, law, mass media, minority studies, planning and public administration, policy studies, political science, psychiatry, psychology, social work and public welfare, sociology, urban studies, and related subjects. This database provides coverage of more than 450 journals in all areas of social work and human services, including theory and practice, areas of service, social issues, and social problems. This current events database allows researchers to explore social, political, and economic issues, scientific discoveries, and other popular topics in the news.  TOPICsearch contains full text for over 64,000 articles from more than 3,000 sources including international and regional newspapers, periodicals, biographies, public opinion polls, book reviews, pamphlets, government information, and EBSCO's Current Issues database. The Value Line Investment Survey Online (standard edition) is a comprehensive source of information and advice on approximately 1,700 stocks, more than 90 industries, the stock market, and the economy.  The service includes Ratings and Reports, one-page reports on 1,700 companies and 90 industries; the Summary & Index, which provides an index of all stocks in the publication as well as many up-to-date statistics about the latest company results; and the Selection & Opinion section, which contains Value Line's latest economic and stock market forecasts, one-page write-ups of interesting and attractive stocks, model portfolios, and financial and stock market statistics.
