SRDS (Standard Rate & Data Service)

 

SRDS (Standard Rate & Data Service) is a database of media rates and information cataloguing over 100,000 U.S. and International media properties. Types of information include publications, newspapers, broadcast, print production, demographics and lifestyles, interactive, out-of-home, direct marketing, international media and market specific.  Mercy College subscribes to Consumer Magazine Advertising Source and SRDS Direct Marketing List Source.  We have them in print and online.

The online editions are continuously updated.  Print versions are updated monthly and quarterly respectively.

 

Important:  If you Log On and the message “Pin is Currently in Use” appears, that means another student is using the site.  DO NOT DISCONNECT THE CURRENT USER.

 

Consumer Magazine Advertising Source

Domestic and international consumer magazines, over 3,000 listings in 85 markets.  Source for ad rates, dates, contact information and links to online media kits.  Also includes links to publication web sites and audit statements that provide additional facts on readership information and positioning.

 

Each magazine listing includes Editorial Profile, Personnel, Commission and Cash Discount, Black/White Rates, Color Rates, Covers, Bleed, Classified/Mail Order/Specialty Rates, General Requirements, Issue and Closing Dates, and Circulation.

 

Search Strategies:

Select a Database:  Domestic or International

Select Search Type:  Class, Keyword, Quick Search by Title

Class Search – Use to review magazines in a given market.  There are over 50 market classifications including Adventure and Outdoors; Business & Finance; Entertainment & Performing Arts; Opinion, Thought & Commentary; Political & Social Topics; and Youth.

Strategy:    Pick a Class.  Click Search to bring up magazine listings in the Class.  Click on each title to get specific publication information.*

Example: Class:  13 Dogs and Pets; Click Title:  Dogs USA to view publication details

 

Keyword Search – Use to search by Topic.  Uncovers all magazines related to a specific topic. Results are by class beginning with Class 0: Adventure and Outdoor Recreation.  Titles are listed alphabetically within each class. 

Strategy:   Select Keywords.  Choose Class(s) from which to pick titles.  Choose specific title.*

Example:  Keywords:  women and fashion, Class:  Class 7 Bridal; Title:  Bride’s Magazine

 

 

Quick Search By Title – Use to search for a specific title.  Results are listed in alphabetical order by class.

Strategy:  Type in title. 

Example:  Esquire, Class:  0A Affluence, 30 Men’s, 41A Popular Culture

 

Results:  Listings can be printed or downloaded.  The Mercy Subscription does not include the Output/Reports function.

 

SRDS Direct Marketing List Source

Complete list rental information.  Over 48,000 comprehensive listings from the U.S., Canada and worldwide.  Lists are divided into 230 business and consumer market classifications.     Contains sources, selects, costs and other valuable information to refine list strategies for direct marketing campaigns.  Target list selections through keyword, market classification, list title, high-ticket buyers, enhanced lists, e-mail lists and new listings.

 

List Title includes List Manager, Summary Description of List, List Source, Selections with Counts, Commission, Credit Policy, Method of Addressing, Delivery Schedule, Restrictions and Maintenance.

 

Search Strategies:

Select a Database:  Domestic or International

Select Query Type:  All Types, Business, Consumer, Farm, Business Insert Media, Consumer Insert Media

Select Class: These are in alphabetical order, individually numbered.

Strategy:    Pick a Class.  Click Search to bring up list listings in the Class.  Click on each title to get specific publication information.* Or, Click on List Summaries to get a title by title summary of each list.

Example:   Choose Business.  View Comprehensive Class List.  Pick #53 Chain Stores.  Results show list of Chain Stores.  View by individual title or title summaries.

 

Keyword Search – First choose a class.

Strategy:  Type in keyword term(s).  Click Search to bring up listings in the Class.  Click on each title to get specific publication information.* Or, Click on List Summaries to get a title by title summary of each list.

Example:  Choose Class:  Business Executives; Type Keyword(s) - New York, New York; Results list summaries or by individual list title.

 

Through keyword search can also search by fields.  For example list title, list description, list selects.  In addition there are advanced enhancements that can be activated to further target the audience.  For example:  High Ticket Mail Order Buyers, E-Mail lists with E-mail selects.
