Backing up Your CE6 Courses
Part ONE:
- Be sure you are in the “Build” view of your course
- Click on “Manage Course” located under “Designer Tools” at left sidebar
- Click “Backup”
- Click “Back-up Course”
- A system message is displayed --> "Backups - The following were added to the backup queue:"
- Click “OK”
- This process takes a few minutes - Please do not click on “Backup” multiple times
- Please wait for a few minutes and click on “Manage Course” located under “Designer Tools” at left sidebar
- Click “Backup”
- The completed course backup will now be listed on this page
- Click “Action Link”
to the right of the course title
- Click “Save as File”
- Click the small box entitled “Tracking Data”
- Click “OK”
- This may take a few minutes.
Part TWO:
- Be sure you are in the “Build” view of your course
- Click “File Manager” located under “Designer Tools” at the left sidebar
- Click on “My Files” icon located on the upper bar just under & to the right of the “Student View” Tab.
- Select your back-up file by clicking on the empty square just to the left of the file
- Click the “Action Link”

- Click “Download”
- Click “Save” or “Save to Disk”
- You might wish to create a “Folder” on your Desktop entitled Fall 2007 Course Backup,” for example, and save the file there
- You may change the file name or keep the same, but be sure the file extension is .bak.
- Click “Save”
- Click “Close”
- Once done, go back to your “My Files” within the File Manager under Designer Tools and delete the back-up there because it is now saved on your own computer. This helps save space in the system.
DO NOT TRY TO OPEN THIS BACKUP FILE (.BAK) ONCE IT IS ON YOUR COMPUTER . Please understand that this is a special Blackboard backup file that can only be opened when placing it in a Blackboard course. If for any reason you must review the course, call Ralph Stavitz at 914-674-7806 for instructions on how to put this file into a Blackboard shell for viewing.
