How do I schedule a placement test if I don't live near the Mercy campus?

If you live over 100 miles away from a Mercy College campus, please follow these steps to find a proctor in your area:

  • Identify a local community or four-year college and contact the Director of the Testing, Counseling or Career Development Office of the institution.
  • The Placement Exam is computerized; therefore, access to a computer will be required.
  • Explain to your contact person that you are taking a placement exam for Mercy College and you are inquiring about the possibility of their office providing a proctor to administer your placement exam. (Some colleges refer to this as "courtesy testing.")
  • Once you have located a post-secondary institution with proctoring services; we will need the following information:
    • Name of person in charge of Testing Office
    • Official job title
    • Phone number of person in charge
    • E-mail address of person in charge
    • Name of institution
    • Address of institution
    • Your complete name
    • Your phone number: day & evening
  • Inform your contact person that someone from Mercy College will be contacting them to verify the testing arrangements and the shipping of exams.

It is imperative that we receive all of the above information in a single e-mail. The request will not be processed until all of the information above is provided.

All information should be forwarded to the Testing Coordinator Yasmin Abreu.

Should I be concerned with the letter codes at the end of a course number such as PSYN101DLA?
Yes, when enrolling in an online course, DL refers to Distance Learning courses specifically. Any letters after "DL" (such as A, B, C, etc) refer to codes used by staff to determine course sections and DO NOT refer to semester terms.

I have questions regarding immunizations. Do regulations apply to me and whom should I contact?
New York State health law requires that all Tri-State online students comply with immunization medical standards and show proof of immunity against measles, mumps, and rubella. Students born before January 1, 1957 are exempt from this requirement. For further information, contact Roslyn Simmons in the Registrar's office at (914) 378-3411.

If I have a question regarding my major, whom should I ask?
Certainly you can direct the question to the Online Advising Forum at: http://mercy.edu/mercyonline/resources/stadvising.cfm?UID=sthomeadvising. However, you would obtain a more comprehensive reply by e-mailing the Department Chairperson of your major division. All full-time faculty have e-mail addresses using first name initial, last name at www.mercy.edu. Check the current college catalogue for faculty/chairperson names. If you have general academic questions, you can use this source as well. Someone will get back to you within 24 hrs. For immediate resolution, contact Alberto Mejia at 914-674-7521 or amejia@mercy.edu.
