About The Center for STEM Education

The Center for STEM Education hosts events, organizes activities, and conducts community outreach that includes local schools and related research on STEM education.

This Center is the only such academic center in our Westchester and Rockland region and serves as an umbrella for varied, current and future STEM education activities conducted by faculty and supported through external funding.

Mission and Staff

The mission of the Mercy University Center for STEM Education (MCCSE) is to create opportunities for groups typically underrepresented in STEM to engage in enrichment activities for learning, career readiness, enjoyment, and personal and community growth, which may not be available through school districts.

Saturday STEM Academy

Mercy University's Saturday STEM Academy gives K-12 students an opportunity to learn hands-on STEM concepts and skills in a collaborative environment with distinguished STEM educators.

Engage primary students and their caregivers in fun STEM activities, making STEM accessible to all!

Students in grades K-2 and their parents attend 3-4 evening sessions of STEM at the school district, coming together to explore and learn.

Mercy University’s Center for STEM Education is pleased to offer schools and districts professional development programs for both teachers and administration. Our professional development offerings are designed by full-time Mercy University faculty and presented by faculty, STEM education professionals and master teachers.

Summer

Advanced Certificate in STEM Education

Teachers with either two years experience and/or a master’s degree can develop expertise in the area of STEM pedagogy. As STEM becomes a central focus across education, this advanced certificate can elevate a teaching career in any subject.

We are excited to present the Mercy University STEM Schools Network, a consortium of distinguished schools who have demonstrated a commitment to STEM education and opportunities through the Mercy University CSE. We made this program to  better connect these teachers and schools across our broad network.

Grant-Funded Initiatives & Research

STEM Master Teacher Fellows

This intensive program of STEM pedagogy courses and professional experiences will prepare 14 in-service K-12 teachers of math and science to become quality STEM Teacher Leaders, with the goal of improving K-12 STEM instruction in four partner high-needs school districts through leadership projects.

The Greater New York Wipro Science Education Fellowship

Mercy University is excited to team up with University of Massachusetts at Boston and Montclair State University in New Jersey to become the Greater New York partner of the Wipro Science Education Fellowship. Dr. Amanda Gunning and Dr. Meghan Marrero, of the Mercy University School of Education, were awarded the $1.19 million grant to lead the Greater New York Wipro Science Education Fellowship (GNY Wipro SEF).
