After taking the helm in 2003, in just his second
season at Mercy Chris led the Flyers to their
first New York Collegiate Athletic Conference
championship since 1992. During his collegiate
playing days he was a Division I standout for
four years at Fordham University, where he was
twice honored as an All-Patriot League selection
(1994 & '95).
After graduating from Fordham in 1995 with a degree in communications, he went on to play professionally for the Wilmington Hammerheads of the United Soccer League from 1995-97, after which he played for the USL's New York Fever.
While his coaching credentials
aren't as extensive, they are also impressive.
While with Wilmington, he was the team's Coaching
Camp and Clinic Director, and upon his return
to New York he served as coach for youth club
FC Westchester for several years. In 2002 he was
an assistant coach for the women's soccer program
at Division I Iona. Coach Gonzalez has been selected
by the United States Soccer Federation as a Bob
McNulty award winner for excellence on his coaches'
examination, and he currently holds an "A" license
from the USSF.
Chris is now in the process of
developing the Black Star Youth Soccer Camps.
