Tutoring

Need a little extra help? Head to one of the Center for Academic Excellence and Innovation's Learning Centers today and take advantage of our complimentary tutoring services.

While your professor is certainly the best choice for course related questions, Mercy College tutors can give you the edge you need through subject specific tutoring, group tutoring, individual tutoring and online tutoring.

Are there tutors in every subject?

The Learning Centers provide tutoring in English, math and the sciences as well as in a wide range of other undergraduate subject areas.

Can I become a tutor?

To become a tutor please print out a PDF iconTutor Application or visit your nearest Learning Center. Students interested in tutoring will need to provide two instructor references in support of their application. Students should also have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and a grade of A in the course(s) they would like to tutor.

Do I need to prepare for a tutoring session?

Yes, please come to all tutoring sessions with an assignment you've already started and with clear directions (preferably written instructions) from your instructor about the requirements of your assignment.

Make a good effort to get as far as you can with your assignment before meeting with your tutor. Think about the issues you'd like your tutor to address during the tutoring session. The more prepared you are, the more you will get out of your tutoring session.

What should I do if I miss or am late to a tutoring session?

If you cannot keep an appointment please call the Learning Center at which your appointment is scheduled as soon as possible. The tutor will probably not be able to hold your spot if you are late.
