Blackboard 101: Basic Blackboard

Blackboard 102: Blackboard Tools

Please Note: Instructors should bring their syllabus and course material on a flash drive.

 

Level 1 Training

Blackboard 101: Basic Blackboard

Prerequisite: None

Duration: 2 hours 

Required for all full-time and part-time faculty.

A certificate of completion will be earned and emailed to participants.

 

This workshop provides and overview of the Mercy College Blackboard Template and explains how to deliver course material through Blackboard.  By the end of the session, participants will be able to navigate in Blackboard, upload the syllabus, set up the Welcome Start Here Page,  and communicate with students through emails and announcements.

Level 2 Training

Blackboard 102: Teaching Essentials

Prerequisite: Blackboard 101: Basic Blackboard

Duration: 2 hours

Required: Full-time and part-time faculty teaching at least one fully online or hybrid course.

 

A certificate of completion will be earned and emailed to participants.

 

In this workshop, participants will receive an overview of various Blackboard tools. By the end of the session, participants will be able to design and organize course content to make it clear and visually appealing.  Participants will learn how to use Multimedia tools. Participant will also learn the basic use of Discussion Forums.


Advanced Blackboard Courses: Prerequisite: Blackboard Mastery Series Completion

Blackboard 201: Discussion Forums and Assignments

Prerequisite: Blackboard 102: Teaching Essentials

Duration: 2 hours

In this workshop, various Blackboard's tools will be explored, including Discussion Forums and Assignments.  By the end of the session, participants will be able to use Discussions, create Assignments and grade them.

Blackboard 202: Setting up the Grade Center

Prerequisite: Blackboard 201: Discussion Forums and Assignments

Duration: 2 hours

This workshop focuses on setting up the Grade Center, which will allow students view their grades and track their progress.  By the end of the session, participants will be able to set up all graded assignments in the Grade Center, calculate the final grade and communicate the progress to the students.

Blackboard 301: Communication Tools and Groups

Prerequisite: Completion of Intermediate Blackboard Courses

Duration: 2 hours

In this workshop, participants will learn the communication/collaboration tools available within a Blackboard course.  Topics include Discussion Forums; Journals and Blogs; Wikis; Groups.  Participants will investigate the opportunities and challenges of managing these tools and become better informed on how to choose the right tools for specific instructional purposes.

Blackboard 302: Tests and Surveys

Prerequisite: Completion of Intermediate Blackboard Courses

Duration: 2 hours

This workshop explores the test and survey tools within a Blackboard course.  After this session, participants will be able to create and administer personalized Tests and Surveys fully online.

Blackboard 303: Blackboard Collaborate

Prerequisite: Completion of Intermediate Blackboard Courses

Duration: 2 hours

In this workshop, participants will learn how to use Blackboard Collaborate Ultra, a live web-conferencing tool built into all online courses. Blackboard Collaborate is used to provide live interaction as well as recording capabilities, such as Live video conference; Interactive whiteboard/PowerPoint slides; Shared viewing of applications; Recorded tutorials.

Blackboard 304: Rubrics

Prerequisite: Blackboard 201: Discussion Forums and Assignments

Duration: 2 hours

This training session will demonstrate how to use a Rubric tool to communicate the assignment requirements and acceptable performance standards in order to ensure consistent and impartial grading.  After completing this workshop, participants will be able to create Rubrics that can be associated with Assignments within the course, and then grade the Assignment using the Rubric.
