Please Note: Instructors should bring their syllabus and course material on a flash drive.

 

Level 1 Training

Blackboard 101: Basic Blackboard

Prerequisite: None

Duration: 2 hours 

Required for all full-time and part-time faculty.

In this workshop, we will explore how Blackboard allows you to deliver course materials, collect assignments, and so much more.  By the end of the session, you will be able to navigate  in Blackboard, upload and organize course content, communicate with students through various Blackboard features, and customize the course environment.

Level 2 Training

Blackboard 102: Blackboard Tools

Prerequisite: Blackboard 101: Basic Blackboard

Duration: 2 hours

Required for all full-time and part-time faculty.

In this workshop, we will explore Blackboard's various tools including quizzes, assignments, rubrics and grading.  By the end of the session you will be able to create quizzes and assessments in Blackboard, set up the Grade Center to track student progress, and grade student work.

Advanced Blackboard Courses: Prerequisite: Blackboard Mastery Series Completion

Blackboard 201: Use of Multimedia

Prerequisite: Blackboard 102: Blackboard Tools

Duration: 2 hours

This session will provide you with opportunities to make your Blackboard course more visually appealing.  Learn how to find external media for your online course, insert/embed multimedia files within the Content Editor box, and use a Mashup tool to add videos from YouTube, photos from Flickr, and presentations from SlideShare.

Blackboard 202: Communication Tools

Prerequisite: Blackboard 102: Blackboard Tools

Duration: 2 hours

In this workshop, you will learn about the communication/collaboration tools available within a Blackboard course.  Topics include:

  • Discussion Forums;
  • Journals and Blogs;
  • Wikis;
  • Groups.

You will investigate the opportunities and challenges of managing these tools and become better informed on how to choose the right tools for your instructional purposes.

Blackboard 203: Assignments, Checking for Plagiarism, and Grading

 Prerequisite: Blackboard 102: Blackboard Tools

Duration: 2 hours

In this session, we will review how to create assignments, check for plagiarism using SafeAssign, and grade student submissions.

Blackboard 204: Tests and Surveys

Prerequisite: Blackboard 102: Blackboard Tools

Duration: 2 hours

A test and survey tool within your Blackboard course can be used to administer a test fully online.  After this session, you will be able to create your own personalized tests and surveys.

Blackboard 205: Rubrics

Prerequisite: Blackboard 102: Blackboard Tools

Duration: 2 hours

This training session will demonstrate how to use a rubric tool to communicate the assignment requirements and acceptable performance standards in order to ensure consistent and impartial grading.  After completing this workshop, you will be able to create a rubric that can be associated with an assignment within your course, and then grade the assignment using the rubric.

Blackboard 206: Setting up the Grade Center

Prerequisite: Blackboard 102: Blackboard Tools

Duration: 2 hours

We will discuss how to manage your entire grading system from within the course. After this session, you will be able to create your own personal grade book consisting of grades, running averages, and weighted averages.

Blackboard 207: Blackboard Collaborate

Prerequisite: Blackboard 102: Blackboard Tools

Duration: 2 hours

Learn how to use Blackboard Collaborate Ultra, a live web-conferencing tool built into all online courses. It is used to provide live interaction as well as recording capabilities, such as:

  • Live video conference;
  • Interactive whiteboard/PowerPoint slides;
  • Shared viewing of applications;
  • Recorded tutorials.
