Center for Academic Excellence and Innovation

The Mercy College Center for Academic Excellence and Innovation, with Learning Centers on all four Mercy campuses, is a valuable resource to help you get ahead – whether you are a B student looking to get A’s or you are struggling to pass a particular course.

The Center provides a friendly learning environment in which to receive tutoring in writing, math and science, as well as in an extensive range of other subjects. The highly trained and courteous staff of faculty, peer tutors, and writing specialists is there to provide you with the support you need to achieve academic excellence.

To use the tutors at the Center, you may make an appointment or stop by during drop-in hours.

Writing Tutoring

Staffed by highly experienced instructors, the Center provides academic support in the following:

  • Written assignments
  • Reading comprehension
  • Grammar
  • Presentation practice
  • Communication skills
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Speech tutoring
  • Online tutoring

Our new online appointment calendar makes it easy to book an appointment in advance. Simply go to our online appointment calendar to select the day, time, and tutor that fits your needs and follow the prompts. You will receive an email confirming your appointment. Drop-in sessions are also available, so if an appointment is not available when you need it, call the campus or drop in, and the tutors will find time to work with you. If you aren’t able to come to the campus for tutoring, the Center for Academic Excellence also provides “real-time” online writing tutors. This service is available weekdays and weekends by appointment only.

Math, Science and General Education Tutoring 

Staffed by highly experienced instructors and peer tutors who have been recommended by faculty, assistance is provided:

  • For many levels of math and statistics, including computational skills, quantitative reasoning, programming algorithms, math-related projects and calculator skills
  • For the spectrum of natural and health sciences including biology, chemistry and physics;
  • For instruction in accounting, economics, foreign languages, history, psychology and other general education courses

Tutoring in math, science and gen ed is provided in a comfortable and dynamic small group setting. No appointment is necessary.

Dobbs Ferry Learning Center 

Students are invited to use our comfortably expanded and refurbished facilities at the Dobbs Ferry campus for individual study, writing and research. Resource-rich rooms are also available for group study and private tutoring.
