How To Apply to the Health Services Management Certificate

Prospective students can apply for admission to a graduate certificate program in Health Services Management. The certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of the six core courses in the Master of Science program listed. Those accepted into the master’s degree program are not eligible to receive this certificate. Applicants to the Certificate program must meet the same admission and program requirements as those applying for the master’s degree program. Successful completion of the certificate courses can be applied to the Health Services Management master’s degree program should certificate students wish to pursue that degree program. Please note that certificate students are not eligible for financial aid.

Yes, faculty have much experience in health care and will be available as mentors. We also have an excellent career development center.
How often do special speakers or industry professionals conduct seminars?
In addition to classes being taught by health care professionals with extensive experience, many courses have speakers from the health care field.

Purpose

This Program is designed to meet the career needs of self-directed, mature student who is interested in acquiring knowledge and skills to promote their professional objectives. The Program is open to all qualified applicants whose academic preparation and/or appropriate work experience indicate potential for successful completion. The Program is offered at the Dobbs Ferry, White Plains, Yorktown and Bronx campuses.

Health Services Management Certificate Objectives

Graduates of the Health Services Management programs are expected to: 

  • Know and be able to use the concepts, methods, procedures and skills of health care economics, finance, accounting and quantitative analysis in health care management decision making and assessment of effectiveness and efficiency of operations. 
  • Develop and use the leadership and communication skills needed by the health care manager. 
  • Acquire knowledge of how health care organizations interface with political, economic, scientific, technological, and religious institutions as well as other health care facilities. 
  • Have the ability to plan, organize, staff, direct, control and evaluate health care organizations and resources for optimal management and delivery of health care services. 
  • Interact competently with colleagues, patients (clients) and associates of diverse cultural backgrounds. 
  • Be aware of the technological advances to support health care operations and the impact on the delivery systems.
  • Identify ethical principles and challenges facing the health care manager in a variety of health care settings in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.
  • Be familiar with the issues and challenges facing the heath care manager in a variety of health care settings in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.
  • Able to manage effectively the uncertainty and change of the 21st century health care environment.

At the end of this program, students should be able to:

  • Formulate a plan to improve effective health care service delivery, based on the analysis of organizational mission, vision, and data
