Application Process

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong knowledge in math or science, the potential to be a successful teacher and a commitment to teaching in a high-needs school district. MISTI Scholars must commit to teaching for 4 years in a high need school district in the Greater New York region following graduation.

We anticipate that this process will be highly competitive. Take care to work on your application and ensure that it represents who you are as a learner and future teacher.  

Who may apply?

Mercy College, Bronx Community College, Rockland Community College or Westchester Community College students completing his/her second year and committed to pursing a career in math or science teaching are eligible.

Additional requirements of MISTI Scholars:

  • United States citizens or permanent resident
  • 3.0 GPA
  • demonstrated success in science or math classes
  • demonstrated interest and/or experience in teaching (e.g., experience tutoring, as a camp counselor, etc.)
  • support letters from two professors and/or supervisors who can attest to your ability as a student or teacher, work ethic and passion for your subject area. Please have your recommenders email their letters of support directly to Dr. Meghan Marrero at mmarrero3@mercy.edu
