STEM Master Teacher Fellows participated in a one-week intensive Professional Development entitled Teaching the Environment.  Set on the banks of the Hudson River in downtown Yonkers at the Sarah Lawrence College Center for the Urban River at Beczak and Sarah Lawrence College campus, this collaborative program had an interdisciplinary curriculum including hands-on workshops and field trips to Hudson River community-based organizations. Under the theme of Discovering Urban Landscapes, the program featured experiential workshops ranging from the arts to physical and social sciences.

Preparing STEM Master Teacher Fellows in the Greater New York City Area

This intensive program of STEM pedagogy courses and professional experiences will prepare 14 in-service K-12 teachers of math and science to become quality STEM Teacher Leaders, with the goal of improving K-12 STEM instruction in four partner high-needs school districts through leadership projects.

These Fellows will be supported during a five-year period by scholarships, tuition waivers, and mentoring by faculty from the Mercy College School of Education; the Center for STEM Education; and community partners: New York University’s Tandon School of Engineering and the Sarah Lawrence College Center for the Urban River at Beczak (CURB).
