"How much media spend is targeted to multicultural audiences? Is that spend growing? The Association of National Advertiser’s (ANA) Alliance for Inclusive and Multicultural Marketing (AIMM) commissioned PQ Media to find out. Dr. Leo Kivijarv, Executive Vice President & Director of Research at PQ Media is an adjunct faculty member at Mercy College, teaching in the Media Studies and Speech Communications programs.

Dr. Kivijarv and his team at PQ Media wrote the U.S. Multicultural Media Forecast 2019, a landmark study that was released by AIMM to its members in July 2019. The 350-page report, with a supplementary list of over 40,000 sources, examined how much brands are investing in media aimed at Hispanic Americans, African Americans and Asian Americans. It identified clear opportunities for more marketers to engage multicultural consumers to drive business growth, and is especially notable for encouraging those marketers still "sitting on the sidelines" to now "get in the game."

In June, Dr. Kivijarv presented preliminary results from the multicultural media study to select AIMM members at a conference in Bentonville, Arkansas, home of Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club. He will expand on those findings at the annual AIMM conference being held in early November in San Diego. The following week, Dr. Kivijarv has graciously volunteered to share those findings with the Mercy College community. This study is particularly relevant in the New York City market, one of the largest multicultural population centers in the United States.

Please join the Department of Communication and the Arts in welcoming Dr. Kivijarv to speak on Tuesday, November 12 in the Main Hall Lecture Hall at 3:00, where he will present data and trends that are driving brands to increase their spending on multicultural media. Doors open at 2:30 and there will be an Q&A session after Dr. Kivijarv’s one-hour presentation.
