On Monday, June 14, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona and New York Congressman Jamaal Bowman visited the Mercy College, Bronx Campus to hold a roundtable discussion with students and teachers about improving the teacher pipeline, especially for students of color.  The event was moderated by Dr. William Latimer, Vice President of the Bronx Campus of Mercy College. The participants discussed the American Families Plan and how the proposed initiatives could support students, teachers and parents.  Also in attendance were Meisha Porter, M.S. ’03, H.D. ’20, Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education, and Dr. Betty A. Rosa, Commissioner of Education and President of the University of the State of New York.

Latimer added, " Secretary Cardona and Congressman Bowman are conducting this listening tour with a special focus on hearing real-life stories, challenges, and successes of K-12 and college students across the US. Participants, many of whom were Mercy alumni, provided snapshots of the challenges they faced whether continuing their studies or helping students to continue their studies. This was a robust discussion and we look forward to welcoming everyone back and continuing these conversations.”
