BronxNet sent a camera crew to follow Joseph Kelleher, executive chairman of the Bronx Chamber of Commerce, on a visit to Mercy’s Bronx campus at the Hutchinson Metro Center (HMC). Kelleher, who directs HMC’s leasing and management for Simone Development, wanted to know more about Mercy’s Graduate Program in Physician Assistant (PA) Studies. So he met up with program director Lorraine Cashin for a tour of the PA learning facility, including the state-of-the-art simulation laboratory. The two chatted with students who were practicing their skills on high-tech mannequins before working with live patients. In response to Kelleher’s question about why they chose Mercy’s PA program, the students eagerly praised the school’s medical missions to underserved communities, both locally and abroad; Mercy’s mobile health vehicle, which provides outreach while encouraging student involvement; and the opportunity to interact with the people and cultures of the Bronx.
