Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – April 17, 2012 – Mercy College has appointed Ed Weis, Ph.D. as dean of the School of Business, effective June 1. A strategic business expert and an accomplished scholar, Weis brings a powerful combination of academic and industry leadership skills to Mercy College.

“The appointment of Dr. Ed Weis comes at a time of tremendous momentum at Mercy College,” said Mercy College President Dr. Kimberly Cline. “His accomplishments in both the business world and in higher education bring experience and strategic knowledge to Mercy’s School of Business. Under his leadership, the faculty and students can look forward to continued progress and innovation.”

Serving as a Managing Director in Investment Banking at Merrill Lynch – one of the world's leading financial management and advisory companies – Weis marketed and executed strategic financing transactions for high-profile clients, including General Electric, Wells Fargo, Continental Airlines, and Priceline.

Weis has held the position of dean of the Business Division, Molloy College, since 2009. During his tenure, Weis established a highly competitive Business Honors Program known for its emphasis on public speaking and presentation skills. He also successfully recruited senior business executives to join the faculty and to use their network of contacts to provide multiple internship opportunities for the students.

“The Mercy College School of Business is dedicated to the development of future business leaders through teaching excellence and a focus on personal mentoring,” said Mercy College School of Business Dean Dr. Ed Weis. “The College has a dedicated faculty and an engaged student body. I am excited to work with them to build on their tradition of achievement.”

As a young prodigy, Weis graduated from college at age 17, going on to earn his M.A. in Accounting, J.D., and Ph.D. in Finance by age 24. Dr. Weis will provide leadership to help supplement students’ academic development with the professional development needed to succeed in business. Weis plans to nurture and expand Mercy’s relationships with companies and executives to open doors for students to provide an exciting start to their careers.
