At what age can you be charged as an adult?
Only two states - New York and North Carolina - charge youth 16 years and older as adults.
Youth incarcerated with adults have a difficult time recovering from the isolation, abuse, and conditions inside adult jails and prisons. This needs to change, and the Raise the Age campaign seeks to ensure that youth offenders are handled in the juvenile justice system where they can receive the rehabilitation they need to improve their lives.
