Andy Lowe

Andrew Lowe, 1957-2017

Andrew Lowe passed away on June 2 of complications from diabetes. Andy had lost the fight to save his leg from a diabetic bone infection in December. But he had fully recovered, learned to walk with his prosthetics and was looking forward to returning to Mercy in April. But damage to his body from diabetes would send him back to two months in intensive care and finally his passing last week. Andy was a force of nature. A rock that we all depended on. He loved his job at Mercy and thrived on working with students and faculty.

Andy joined the Cybersecurity program at Mercy in 2011. He had spent years as a photographer for AP and UPI, and had run a successful photo processing business, but the advent of digital images had changed the world of photography.

Andy joined the library as our first Graduate Assistant for Technology support in 2012  and his talents for solving problems and his patience while working with students soon made him almost indispensable. "Where’s Andy?" rang out throughout the library. Andy became the library's Circulation Supervisor and Technology Manager in 2013. He learned 3D and poster printing and shared that passion and knowledge with many faculty and students.

Andy was proud of his work at Mercy. We were so lucky to have known him. He was a valued colleague and dear friend. He will be remembered by all of us.
