Why Should I Go Back to College?

Deciding to start pursuing your degree again after taking some time off is an exciting step! Earning your bachelor's is a great way to level up your career. In fact, professionals with a bachelor's degree often earn about $75,000 a year — compare that to those with an associate's (about $52,000) and just a high school diploma (about $44,000). In addition to a larger paycheck, going for your bachelor's can give you the skills and experience you need to rock a job in your field.

To start your journey back to earning your degree, you need a partner by your side — that's where Mercy University comes in. Our warm and welcoming advisors are here to make transferring as stress-free as possible and help you through every step of the process. Take the leap and become a Maverick by applying today!

How Long Do My College Credits Stay Valid?

If you already have some credits under your belt or have earned your associate's before taking a break, you may wonder, “How long are my credits good for?” This varies based on your degree and the classes you took. Generally, colleges will accept your credits up to 10 years after your last class or earning your associate's, but the exact number may vary depending on the specific credit.

At Mercy, we try to take as many credits as possible so you can hit the ground running as soon as you start. We have articulation agreements with several community colleges, which means it's easier for the majority of your credits to transfer in.

Something else that makes Mercy different is the Life Achievement Portfolio Development. If you meet the requirements for this credit option, you can transform the knowledge you've earned outside the classroom into some credits toward your degree.

3. Submit Your Application

Your specific application deadline depends on which program you apply to. Most of the programs at Mercy offer rolling admissions, so you can apply anytime and still earn acceptance before the start of the next term. Some programs have an application deadline of March 15 for fall admissions and December 15 for spring admissions.

The documents you must submit with your application depend on your specific degree. When you chat with our transfer team, we'll learn more about your academic goals and intended degree and let you know which documents you need. For all programs, official transcripts of any earned college credit are required.

4. Review Your Credit Articulation

After sending out your acceptance letter (congrats, by the way!), we'll give you an official articulation that shows exactly how each of your credits will transfer. Plus, our team will take the time to review your credit articulation with you. Our goal is to make sure you have all the information you need to decide whether Mercy is where you want to go.

Large Transfer Community

Did you know that 2 in 5 students at Mercy have transferred here, many after long breaks? This means you'll be among many transfer students in your class, and find professors and peers who know all about returning to school after a break. Our large transfer population also means more transfer students choose to come here than other schools.

We offer plenty of opportunities to continue learning outside the classroom with our academic support resources. These on-campus and online resources include tutoring, academic skills development, learning assistance, test prep and more so you can crush your next exam or presentation.
