The Mav Market is an inclusive and confidential environment where Mercy students, faculty, and staff can get wholesome foods and personal items.
We're here to help reduce the struggle of having to balance classes and being able to feed yourself or your family in and out of school.
From our start in the Bronx in October of 2017, we have served over 33,000 meals to the Mercy Community and now have over 800 members!

Mav Market Response to COVID-19
The Mav Market has transitioned back into a walk-in, grocery store style pantry at all campus locations. Members may visit whichever pantry is closest to them during open hours to select the food and toiletries that they need using our point system. To keep everyone safe and socially distanced, no more than two shoppers will be allowed into the pantry space at one time. Gloves will be provided, and we recommend that everyone brings a reusable grocery bag for shopping.

General Mav Market Questions
Q: What is the Mav Market?
A: The Mav Market is open one day per week at each campus, and you may visit whichever pantry location is closest to you during these hours. Upon arrival, a volunteer will check you in (or sign you up if you are not already a member!) and tell you your weekly point allocation based on your family size. Each item within the Market has a point value, and you are free to shop for whatever items you need until you have reached your weekly point number. We operate on a trust system, so we do not count points or check bags. All visitors are expected to wear gloves while shopping and we recommend everyone brings their own reusable bag!
Q: How does the Mav Market work?
A: The Mav Market is currently operating on a pre-packaged food bag request system. If you would like to request food or snacks, you can submit a Food Request Form online (due each Thursday by 5 p.m.). Forms must be re-submitted on a weekly basis, as often as you would like to receive a bag. A Mav Market volunteer will pack your bag and label it with the last four digits of your CWID (the number of bags you receive with each order is dependent upon your family size). Your bag(s) will be available for pick-up during the following week, on your campus' bag distribution day.
Q: What if I missed the deadline for a food request form, but I am in need?
A: If you are ever in need of food and missed a deadline please email us at email@example.com.
Q: Do I need to pay for items from the Mav Market?
A: No! The Mav Market is completely free and open to all students, faculty, and staff.
Q: I'm not experiencing food insecurity or hunger, can I still pick up some snacks from the Mav Market?
A: Of course! If you are hungry throughout the day, we are here to help. A granola bar could be the difference between a B and an A, and we want to make sure you have all the tools you need to succeed.
Q: I'm graduating from Mercy, but I still need help. Can I come to the Mav Market?
A: You are allowed to return to the Mav Market for after graduating! However, please let us know so we can help you find the appropriate resources, including food pantries in your area, how to apply for SNAP/EBT and WIC, and any other needs you may have. Q: What if I cannot come during open hours, but I am in need?
A: If you would like to schedule a food bag pick-up outside of open hours, you may submit an online Food Request Form (find the link above). Please indicate the alternate date and time you will pick-up on your form. If you have any further questions please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q: When are open days / hours?
A: Open hours are between 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. on Tuesdays (Dobbs Ferry), Wednesdays (Manhattan), and Thursdays (Bronx). If you cannot make it to campus during open hours, please submit an online Food Request Form to schedule an alternate date and time for pick-up.
Q: Will I still be able to receive refrigerated perishable / frozen items?
A: If you would like to receive cold or frozen items, you must visit us during open hours (all items quantity dependent). Please note that we will try to have cold bags on hand, but bringing a reusable grocery bag is highly recommended.
Q: How many times can I visit the Mav Market each month?
A: You may visit the Mav Market once per week, at any campus pantry location, as frequently as we are open during the month. Please note that the Mav Market is closed during Mercy College recognized holidays and breaks.
Q: Can I volunteer with the Mav Market?

Q: What would I do as a volunteer?
A: Volunteers perform a wide variety of tasks, including checking members in, inventory, stocking shelves, picking up donations, social media, planning fundraisers, and much more! Whatever your interests are, we have something for you to do.
Q: Can I design a project for the Mav Market for academic credit?
A: Absolutely, the Mav Market encourages students to participate in a way that is meaningful for them. We will gladly work with you and your professor to design a project that enriches your perspective and helps the Mav Market.
Q: Can I donate to the Mav Market?
A: Yes, feel free to donate items at the Mav Market locations in the Bronx (Rm 4115), Dobbs Ferry (MH 115), or Manhattan (Rm 329), or place items in our drop boxes located on all campuses. Drop boxes can be found in:

- Hudson Hall 1st Floor Lounge
- The Office of Student Life (Hudson Hall 118)

Q: What kind of items are you looking for?
A: We accept all non-perishable food items, toiletries, and menstrual products. We are in highest need of on-the-go meals, soups, pasta, sauce, beans, canned fruits, and snacks.
We are also in high need of kitchen supplies, such as pots & pans, can openers, utensils, and on-the-go containers.
Q: I have some perishable items or produce that I'd like to donate. Is there a way to do that?
A: Please contact Julie Cruickshank (email@example.com) to arrange a time to drop off your donation so we can get it into the fridge. We want to ensure the highest level of food safety for our members, which means ensuring all products are stored in the proper conditions.
Q: Do you accept frozen foods?
Q: I have items that are past the sell-by or use-by date. Can I still donate them?
A: Yes! Our volunteers have been trained to determine the quality of products. We sort through all donations to ensure all of our products are safe for consumption, so you can donate with confidence.
