Welcome to the Mav Market: Mercy’s Community Food Pantry
The Mav Market is an inclusive and confidential environment where Mercy students, faculty, and staff can get wholesome foods and personal items.
We're here to help reduce the struggle of having to balance classes and being able to feed yourself or your family in and out of school.
From our start in the Bronx in October of 2017, we have served over 58,000 meals to the Mercy Community!
Mav Mission Statement
Reduce food insecurity - Provide access to healthy, nutritious food to the campus and community
Promote a healthy lifestyle - Offer resources for our patrons to learn about nutrition, mental health and physical health
Engage the community - Host programs that educate and empower the patrons of the Mav Friendly Market
Be an inclusive space - Create a space that is confidential and inclusive of people of all identities
Mav Market Response to COVID-19
The Mav Market has transitioned back into a walk-in, grocery store style pantry at all campus locations! Our members may visit whichever pantry is most convenient for them during open hours to select the food and toiletries that they need based on our point system. We recommend that everyone brings a reusable grocery bag for shopping.
Not a Mav Market Member yet? Re-certifying for a new academic year? Fill out an Intake Form before your first visit!
FAQs on the Mav Market
Q: What is the Mav Market?
A: The Mav Market is Mercy University's food and resource pantry, open to all students, staff, and faculty. We provide food, snacks, and toiletries, as well as additional resources such as federal benefit eligibility pre-screeners, SNAP assistance, and nutrition education. We are completely free, confidential, and open to all!
Q: How does the Mav Market work?
A: Members may visit the Mav Market on any campus during weekly open hours. Upon arrival, our staff members will check you in (or sign you up if you are not already a member!) and tell you your weekly point allocation based on your family size. Each item within the Market has a point value, and you are free to shop for whatever items you need until you have reached your weekly point number. We operate on a trust system, so we do not count points or check bags. We recommend everyone brings their own reusable bag!
Q: Where is the Mav Market located?
A: Find us in the Bronx in Room 2221, Westchester in Main Hall Room 115, and Manhattan in Room 329!
