Neal Mettler

Dedicated and accomplished professional with a diverse academic background and extensive experience in education and research. After completing high school in western New York, Dr. Mettler pursued higher education at Marietta College and later earned a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University in 1980, specializing in the isolation and culture of type 2 epithelial cells of the lung and the development of the surfactant system.

Transitioning to Westchester County, Dr. Mettler joined the pathology faculty at New York Medical College, where his research focused on oxidative injury to the lung. In response to evolving challenges in securing research grants and a shift in departmental focus, Dr. Mettler successfully reinvented his career by obtaining a secondary education license through Pace University.

For over 30 years, he imparted knowledge and fostered academic growth as a dedicated educator at White Plains High School, teaching subjects such as regents biology, chemistry, AP biology, and anatomy and physiology. In 2018, upon retiring from White Plains, he continued mhis passion for teaching at Mercy University, contributing valuable expertise and inspiring the next generation of learners.
