About

Robin Schafer is a pediatric and psychiatric nurse practitioner with a Doctor of Nursing Practice from New York University and nurse practitioner degrees from Columbia University and Stony Brook University. She brings a strong foundation of clinical expertise along with more than 4.5 years of academic leadership, contributing meaningfully to both patient care and nursing education. Robin is deeply committed to her patients across the lifespan, emphasizing compassionate, individualized care that supports each person in expressing their needs and concerns. Equally, she is devoted to educating and mentoring the next generation of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners, fostering clinical excellence, critical thinking, and compassionate practice.

As a Clinical Assistant Professor at Pace University, Robin led large courses of up to 80 students, using a dynamic and culturally responsive approach to teaching. She is dedicated to creating an inclusive learning environment that supports diverse student populations and promotes academic success. She now brings this experience to Mercy University, where she serves as an Assistant Professor in both the Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner programs. Her teaching also includes pharmacogenomics—the study of how genetic variation influences medication response—in which she holds a graduate-level master’s certificate. This expertise strengthens her commitment to evidence-based and integrated psychiatric care.

Robin is passionate about incorporating innovative tools into both psychiatric practice and nursing education. At Mercy University, she continues to bridge research, clinical practice, and teaching, preparing the next generation of nurses to meet the evolving demands of healthcare.

In addition to her academic work, Robin has held leadership roles in student health services at Iona College and Barnard College, where she contributed to the development of healthcare policies and practices. She also serves as a board member of the NYU Meyers Alumni Association, with a focus on advancing nursing innovation and programs of excellence.
