Graduate Student Lauren Musser Wins Scholarship from Public Company Accounting Oversight Board

Lauren Musser ’16, a decorated U.S. Army veteran and graduate student in Mercy College’s public accounting program, was awarded a $10,000 scholarship from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) — one of the most nationally reputed organizations in accounting and auditing.

Musser’s nomination for the scholarship marked the first time Mercy had ever been selected to provide a nomination to the board. Only accredited accounting programs selected by the PCAOB are able to submit nominations, and many other colleges/universities it selects are among the top accounting schools in the country.

Additionally, the PCAOB also sets auditing standards in the United States for all publicly-traded companies and broker dealers, and oversees compliance with these standards and other federal regulations required of broker dealers in the auditing process. The board's distinction is further testament to both Musser’s achievement and Mercy’s rising public accounting program.

After eight years of active duty, Musser soon completed a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with Mercy before she began pursuing an M.S. this past spring. Musser is also currently an audit intern for KPMG, LLP — a prestigious audit and tax advisory network — the most recent of several notable internships she’s held in her time with the College. Funding from the scholarship will be disbursed in August.
