International Week Raises Awareness of Multidisciplinary Topics Impacting Society on a Global Scale

Mercy College International Week

Mercy College is hosting its seventh annual International Week, taking place from Monday, November 18 to Friday, November 22, to engage the College community in exploring issues of global concern.

Organized by Dr. Sheila Gersh, director of the Center for Global Engagement (CGE), and Michiko Kuroda, CGE visiting fellow for United Nations (UN) Affairs and adjunct instructor in the international relations and diplomacy program, the series offers a range of compelling and timely internationally-themed events, one for each day of the week.

“Part of the mission of the Center for Global Engagement is to develop interdisciplinary global learning opportunities,” said Gersh. “For Mercy’s International Week, we hope to raise awareness about topics of critical importance to an increasingly interconnected world.” The series was created in 2013 by Dr. Saul Fisher, associate provost for research, grants, and academic initiatives, to explore issues that align with UN-designated days of international awareness. Events during the week also highlight Mercy’s study-abroad programs.

“At Mercy and all over the world, young people are preparing to shape the global future,” said Fisher. “This series of international-themed events gives our community a chance to explore and reflect on issues of vital importance to everyone on the planet—and to reconsider how we view these pressing issues.”
