Mercy Alumnus Hailed as Hero for Saving Family in Bronx Fire

A Mercy College alumnus has been marked a hero for springing into action during the January 9 apartment fire in the Fordham Heights section of the Bronx that tragically took the lives of 17 people. According to a New York Post article, Mahamed Keita ’19 saved a woman and her two children as they struggled to escape the burning building. A quote in the article from Keita states, “I was just trying to do the right thing. Everybody was struggling.”

Mercy College’s thoughts are with the individuals affected by the devastating fire and the College is working closely with the Bronx community to offer support during this difficult time.
