Cristina Dumitrescu, EdD, MS, OTR/L, COTA/L is the OTA Program Director.
Dr. Dumitrescu has 24 years of experience as an occupational therapy practitioner, primarily in sub-acute/ management positions. Prior to holding this position, she worked as the Associate Director/Academic Fieldwork Coordinator in the OTA Program.
Dr. Dumitrescu is responsible for the management and administration of the program, including planning, evaluation, budgeting, selection of faculty and staff, supervision of faculty and staff, maintenance of accreditation, and commitment to strategies for professional development. She is also responsible for teaching, student advisement, committee work on the department, School of Health and Natural Sciences and University level, recruitment, and marketing activities.
Under her leadership, the OTA program licensure pass rate has dramatically improved, and the program received the maximum 10-year reaccreditation following a site visit in fall 2019. The accreditation team recognized Dr. Dumitrescu for her outstanding leadership and commitment to program excellence and student success stating “This is evidenced by leading an occupational therapy assistant program that is sensitive to the needs of a diverse population of students and that leverages resources from international, national, and state levels in producing graduates who are highly sought after in the community.” A 10- year reaccreditation is not typical and reflects a tremendous amount of work, a high-quality curriculum, and exceptional leadership.
Dr. Dumitrescu received her A.A.S. in Occupational Therapy at Mercy University in 1998 as part of the first graduating class. She graduated in 2008 with a B.S. /M.S. degree in OT from Touro College, and in 2022 with an EdD specializing in teaching and learning from University of St. Augustine.
